It’s Day Two of my treadmill desk lifestyle. The novelty has worn off and the coworkers no longer poke their heads in here to giggle. I was expecting a bit of soreness this morning, and there was. My legs are a little tired from walking most of the day yesterday. But rather than skip my second day of walking at my desk, I decided to “walk it off” so to speak. I sat for a couple of hours this morning, then reassembled my treadmill desk setup and got started once more. Once I got going, it wasn’t so bad. The soreness is very mild, and mostly in my thighs.
The treadmill itself has been performing just fine. I did notice that my right step slid more slowly than my left step. After adding some silicone lubricant to the right side of the belt, it became more even. A coworker asked how many miles I walked yesterday. I honestly don’t know. The control console does have a distance counter, but it clears out every time I stop the treadmill. Plus it’s in kilometers for some reason. So I’ll track my mileage by doing a little math. I’ve been walking in 20-minute increments. I’ve also been using the lowest speed most of the time, which starts at 1 mile per hour I’ve been told (the display says 0.6??) So for every hour I’ve walked, I’ll have walked one mile. Feels like more, but these are the numbers I’m working with. Maybe I should use a pedometer.
I tried one walking segment with just socks. My feet got tired pretty quickly, so it’s definitely better with good walking shoes. Since walking while working, I’ve not needed a jacket at all. Before this I always needed a jacket to keep warm at my desk, and now I’m warm all the time. It’s still early spring so I’m not hot. We’ll see how summer goes. The office has AC so I’m not worried.
