I’m happy to report that, nearly six months later, I am still happily treading along at my treadmill desk. I use it nearly every day! Here’s the routine I follow:
- Eat breakfast
- Move treadmill into place
- Walk for 20 minutes while working
- Sit for a 5-minute break
- Repeat about 3-4 times
- Put treadmill away
- Eat lunch
- Work some more
- Move treadmill back into place
- Walk for 20 minutes
- Sit for a 5-minute break
- Repeat about 3-4 times
- Put treadmill away and finish the work day
With this process I don’t feel tired, but I do feel warm, which is helpful when the AC tends to blast a little too cold for me. In total I average about 2-3 hours of walking a day. The sporadic hip pain that I felt from time to time has been greatly reduced. The human body really wasn’t meant to sit for hours on end, so changing up the postures seem to have helped a lot.
I’m also happy to report that I seem to have inspired others to set up treadmill desks of their own. When the boss gives a tour of the office to clients or business partners, he’ll come by my office (I’m still ecstatic that I have my own office, wheeeee!) and proudly tell the person about my treadmill desk. A couple of them seemed impressed and really interested in my setup. One coworker has set up a treadmill desk of her own. Another asked for details on my setup to pass on to a friend, who later set up their own treadmill desk just like mine. She said I was a trend setter. Imagine that! ME. A trend setter! Ha! I love it.
